Like father, like son.
Ross Kenseth won the Corrigan Oil 200, an ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards event at Michigan International Speedway on Friday.
Kenseth is the son of NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Matt Kenseth, who has won twice in that series at MIS.
"It was a lot of fun today," Ross Kenseth said.
Frank Kimmel finished second and Austin Wayne Self was third.
It was the third career ARCA start for Kenseth, and his first this season.

NASCAR Sprint Cup races for 2015 at Michigan International Speedway will be June 14 and Aug. 16.

The June race weekend at the track includes an ARCA race and a NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

A NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race will be part of the August weekend.

Brad Smith of Shelby Township finished in 19th place in the Herr's Live Life with Flavor 200, an ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway on Sunday.
Justin Boston of Baltimore, Md., won the 200-lap race on the half-mile oval.
Kyle Benjamin and Brandon Jones finished second and third, respectively.
The No. 48 Radon.com Ford driven by Smith completed 57 laps before dropping out of the race due to over-heating.
Boston drove the No. 25 ZLOOP Toyota to his second win of the season.
Benjamin, the defending race winner, drove the No. 37 Benjamin Racing Ford, and Jones was in the No. 4 Richmond Water Heaters-Menards Chevrolet.

BRAD SMITH

Brad Smith, who teamed with car owner James Hylton near the midway point of the season, is 15th in points in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

"I will likely drive for James the rest of the season," Shelby Township resident Smith said Tuesday.

Five races remain on the ARCA schedule. The next race is Sunday at Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway, a half-mile paved oval.
Smith, driver of the No. 48 Ford, has started 10 of the 15 races run this season. He is 35 points behind former NASCAR driver Ken Schrader, who is 14th with 1,590 points.

David Ragan's late model

Points leader Travis Braden finished in first place, and Macomb Township resident Eric Lee took fifth in the 7-Up 125, an ARCA JEGS/CRA Super Series late model race at Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday night.
The 21-driver field included NASCAR veteran David Ragan, plus pole winner Ross Kenseth, who is the son of NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, and Todd Gilliland, son of NASCAR driver David Gilliland.
Ali Kern finished second, Steve Dorer third and Paul Shafer Jr. fourth in the 125-lap race.
Ragan finished 18th after completing 55 laps and retiring due to a problem with the rear end of his No. 77 Ford.
Gilliland and Dennis Strickland finished only four laps each due to an accident, and were scored 20th and 21st, respectively.
Pat Zorn of St. Clair finished 19th.
Kenseth's pole-winning qualifying time was 12.226 seconds on the quarter-mile oval.
The first-place finisher's take of the purse was $3,000, according to the CRA Web site. Fifth place was worth $800.

Brad Smith of Shelby Township finished in 18th place in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., on Saturday night.
Smith's No. 48 Ford completed 78 laps in the Federated Auto Parts 200 before a transmission problem forced Smith from the race.
Grant Enfinger won the 200-lap race in the No. 90 Chevrolet. He was followed by Austin Wayne Self in the No. 22 Dodge and and Brennan Poole in the No. 15 Toyota.

The Radon.com Ford will be one of two Hylton-owned cars in the 200-lap Federated Auto Parts 200.
Brian Norton of Lambertville, Mich., will drive the No. 49 Hylton Motorsports Ford on the 7/16-mile track.
The race is the 14th of the season for the ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards.
Smith started eight of the previous 13 races. He is 20th in points.
Berlin Raceway is about 10 miles west of Grand Rapids, off I-96 exit 23.

Justin Allison won the 50-lap ModSpace 125. It was the first career ARCA win for Allison, a grandson of legendary NASCAR driver Donnie Allison.
Smith started 22nd in the No. 48 Radon.com Ford.
Allison, driver of the No. 88 HaVaCoSales.com Ford, started fifth.
Pole winner Mason Mitchell finished seventh in the No. 98 Musselman's-Wildlife Foundation of Florida-TTS Ford.

Austin Theriault won the Corrigan Oil 200, an ARCA race at Michigan International Speedway on Friday. It was the first career ARCA start for Theriault, a native of Maine.
Theriault drove the No. 66 Venturini Motorsports Toyota.
"I didn't want to make any mistakes," Theriault said. "I just wanted to be in position to make a run for the win.
"Good cars like this don't come too often."
Mason Mitchell finished second in the No. 98 Ford, and Justin Allison was third in the No. 88 Ford.
Brad Smith of Shelby Township finished 17th in the No. 48 Ford owned by James Hylton. Smith completed 87 of the 100 laps.
"In (turns) three and four I felt like I was so much faster than anybody out there," Mitchell, who took over the unofficial ARCA points lead, said.

James Hylton is happy to have Brad Smith behind the wheel of his ARCA car.

A former NASCAR driver, who had a long career racing in ARCA, Hylton hired the Shelby Township resident to run in the Corrigan Oil 200 at Michigan International Speedway on Friday. Smith qualified 18^th in the No. 48 Radon.com Ford.

“He’s a lot better than what he gets credit for,” Hylton said. “He’s a good driver. Brad and I raced together for several years.

“He’s a good match for the kind of racing we have to do. I’m very proud of him.”

Hylton wants a driver who will take care of the vehicle during the race.

“It’s everything,” Hylton said. “The budget we have to race on is really unbelievable compared to the front-running cars.

“It’s a money thing. If we don’t do good, there’s a possibility we don’t go to the next race.

“Brad is the kind of guy that, because of driving his own car, and years of experience, he knows how to take care of the equipment.”

Smith has started more than 200 ARCA races.

Taylor Ferns had never raced a full-bodied stock car on a one-mile dirt oval prior to last  weekend, In fact, she had raced only once on dirt in any kind of race vehicle, in a Silver Crown machine back in May.

That did not seem to bother the 17-year-old for Shelby Township, who earned a pair of top-10 finishes at the one-mile dirt oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds last weekend. Ferns finished ninth with the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards in the Allen Crowe 100 and came home 10th in the Tony Bettenhausen 100 with the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series.
“The Springfield Mile is a pretty unique track and I really enjoyed racing there,” Ferns said in a release from her race team. “It was a lot of fun and I think our results showed that. We feel like we are finally getting our luck turned around this year and have had some solid finishes lately. Racing twice definitely helped and both races were just about at the same time each day, so we kind of knew what to expect weather-wise and track condition-wise.”
Ferns took to the mile oval for the Allen Crowe 100 for the ARCA Series on Sunday, Aug. 18, beginning the day with a practice session in the morning, followed by qualifying. She turned the fifth-fastest lap in time trials of the 33 entrants, but had to start the rear of the field following an accident after her qualifying lap, with the team making quick repairs before the drop of the green flag.Starting at the rear of the 33-car field, Ferns quickly began her march forward in the No. 55 Motor City Transport Inc./National Auto Placement Toyota for Venturini Motorsports. She worked her way into the top-20 in the first half of the 100-lap event and found herself among the top 15 as the race wore on. She made a trio of pit stops, with her crew continually making adjustments on her car. Ferns crossed the finish line 11th; following a late race restart that extended the race to 104 laps, and gained two more positions after a couple of drivers were penalized for jumping the final restart. The ninth-place finish matched her best ARCA finish of the season.
Ferns  has a pair of ARCA top-10 finishes this year in a limited number of starts. She is scheduled to compete in three more races with the series this season, including on another one-mile dirt oval, as well as on the pavement at Iowa and Kentucky speedways.
In the Tony Bettenhausen 100 for the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series on Saturday, Ferns lined up 16th and worked her way forward, finishing 10th, earning her second straight top-10 finish with the series.

Seven Macomb County drivers are on the probable entry list posted by Flat Rock Speedway for the running Saturday of the combined  Joy Fair Memorial-Stan Yee Memorial 150 sponsored by Moran Chevrolet and Diamond Racing Products.

The ARCA Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series race will go 150 all-green-flag laps for the biggest race of the season at the track.

The ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman Division will make its second visit to Flat Rock and compete in a 50 lap feature, while the Parts Galore Figure 8 Division will stage a 20 lap feature on the figure 8 track.

The pit area opens at 1 p.m., front gates open and practice starts at 3, and time trials get under way at 5. Racing starts at 7 p.m.

Eric Lee of Macomb Township, Derrick Sheppard of Mount Clemens, Paul Calo of Sterling Heights, Stan Yee Jr. of Roseville, Frank Jiovani of Harrison Township, Jim Alvis of Chesterfield Township and Terry Bogusz of Shelby Township are listed as probable entries by the speedway Web site.

Chase Elliott (Chevrolet) and Erik Jones (Toyota) had the fastest and second-fastest times during practice prior to the ARCA Series stock car race at Pocono Raceway on Friday.

Qualifying for the 50-lap ModSpace 125 was canceled because of rain that wiped out practice Thursday. The starting lineup for the race to be run later Friday was set by owner points.

Taylor Ferns of Shelby Township was to start seventh.

Elliott is the son of former NASCAR Cup champion Bill Elliott.

Taylor Ferns on Friday makes her fourth start in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards when she competes in the ModSpace 150 at Pocono Raceway.

The Shelby Township resident will drive the No. 55 Motor City Auto Transport Toyota stock car for Venturini Motorsports.

The 17-year-old will become the youngest female driver to start a race in the top ARCA series, according to the VMS Web site.

“My first start on an intermediate track is going to be a learning process,” Ferns said. “I’m so used to the technical aspects of short-track racing. Carrying those high speeds into the corners here at Pocono with the heavier car will be the biggest difference and challenge for me this weekend. However, coming from open wheel I’m prepared and confident for what’s to come.”

The race will be televised at 5:15 p.m. on SPEED television.
