All four Detroit Lions preseason games will be televised by WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) in Detroit. Each game will be preceded by the 30-minute "Detroit Lions Tailgate" preview show.

Friday, Aug. 9: New York Jets at Lions, 7 p.m. pregame (rebroadcast 11 a.m. Aug. 11)

Thursday, Aug. 15: Lions at Cleveland Browns, 7 p.m. pregame (rebroadcast 11 a.m. Aug. 18)

Thursday, Aug. 22: New England Patriots at Lions, 7 p.m. pregame (rebroadcast 11 a.m. Aug. 25)

Thursday, Aug. 29: Lions at Buffalo Bills, 6:30 p.m. pregame (rebroadcast noon Aug. 31)

Also, Detroit Lions preseason games will be broadcast on a state-wide television network that includes: WSYM-Lansing, WXMI-Grand Rapids, WNEM-Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, WFQX-Cadillac, Traverse City, WJMN-Marquette, and WUPW-Toledo, Ohio.

Ryan Hunter-Reay saved his best lap for his last lap at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

The defending IZOD IndyCar Series champion showed no ill effects for a two-week layoff turning a lap of 1 minute 5.6358 seconds Wednesday on the 13-turn, 2.258-mile road course to lead the one-day  open test in advance of Sunday's Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio.

"It was a good day," Hunter-Reay, driver of the No. 1 DHL Chevrolet, said. "Made some major gains and we're pretty happy with the car. This track is similar to Barber and we've been quick on the big natural terrain road courses. I'm happy with the work that the Andretti Autosport boys have done over the last two weeks and I'm sure we'll find even more speed for Friday."

Simon Pagenaud turned the second-quickest lap of 1:05.7965 in the No. 77 Schmidt Hamilton HP Motorsports Honda followed by Will Power (1:05.8206) of Team Penske, Sebastien Bourdais (1:05.9654) of Dragon Racing and series points leader Helio Castroneves (1:05.9710).

Scott Dixon, who has won the last three IndyCar Series races and is aiming for his third straight win at Mid-Ohio, was sixth at 1:06.1025. A little more than a second separated the top 16 drivers on the timesheet.

How high can John Beilein climb?

The 60-year-old men's basketball coach signed a contract extension at Michigan on Wednesday. He is signed to coach the Wolverines through the 2018-19 season.

Beilein is fourth on the Michigan coaching victories list with 122 at the school.

Johnny Orr leads with 209, followed by Bill Frieder with 191 and Steve Fisher with 181.

Beilein just finished his sixth season as the Wolverines' coach. He led U-M to the national championship game.

Michigan has averaged 20 wins per season under Beilein.

Kip Brown took home 1,627 markers toward the High Points championship with his victory in the Gold Cup final on the Detroit River on Sunday.
