CCHA update: Michigan, MSU to meet twice this week

Here are some storylines for the week ahead in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, courtesy of the league office:
FERRIS STATE:  After scoring just one goal last season, sophomore forward Justin Buzzeo tallied his first two goals of the season in a weekend split with Miami with a goal in both Friday’s 3-0 win  and Saturday’s 4-2 loss.
LAKE SUPERIOR STATE: Junior goaltender Kevin Murdock faced 50 shots during Saturday’s 4-2 victory against Alaska. The last time a LSSU goaltender faced 50 shots or more was at Ferris State on Dec. 8, 2006, when Jeff Jakaitis totaled 49 saves in a 1-1 tie against the Bulldogs.
MICHIGAN: Sophomore forward Alex Guptill notched an assist in both Friday’s 4-4 tie/shootout win at Northern Michigan and Saturday’s 4-3 loss to the Wildcats to extend his point-scoring streak to six games (4-4-8).
MICHIGAN STATE:  MSU readies for a home-and-home series with archrival Michigan this week.  MSU trails in the all-time series, 125-143-19.  Last season, MSU won and tied (and won the shootout) in the two games at Munn, lost at Yost, and lost two overtime games at Joe Louis Arena in the GLI final, and in the annual regular-season game.
NORTHERN MICHIGAN: The ‘Cats earned their first CCHA points with a 4-4 tie against Michigan on Friday and its first conference win, 4-3, over the Wolverines on Saturday in front of 4,260 fans at a sold out Berry Events Center. The last sellout was Nov. 4, 2011 against Notre Dame.
WESTERN MICHIGAN: After defeating Notre Dame, 3-2, on Friday, the Broncos were held to 14 shots in Sunday’s 4-0 loss to the Irish. It is the fewest since they were held to 16 on March 19, 2011 in the CCHA Championship game by Miami.
